A new column on keeping you up-to-date on the changes in education. We will inform you in this column on the improvements made in education. We are selectively breeding the best forms of education for you!
In this column I, Lisa Kiel, the commissioner education, will inform you on all the relevant topics being discussed in the StudCie (study committee of Semper Florens) and the OpCie (program committee for the studies of Plant Sciences).
Skills learning trajectories in the BSC
All studies will need to implement 15 skills in their bachelor courses. These skills are divided into academic skills and reflection & learning skills. These skills that have to be implemented are learning trajectories, which are a coherent and structured set of educational activities and experiences, embedded in one or more courses, and (possibly extending over several years of study). These skills are meant to make sure all bachelor students from Wageningen University will have a certain level and amount of skills. At the meeting to discuss how the skills are to be implemented, Anja and I found out that nearly all of the skills are already present in the bachelor Plant sciences, so there will probably not be many changes happening in this regard for the bachelor.

Redesigning the BSc Plant Sciences, MSc Plant Sciences and MSc Plant Biotechnology
The OpCie of BSc Plant Sciences, MSc Plant Sciences, and MSc Biotechnology went on a redesign lab, to redesign the BSc and the MSc’s. This needs to be done because the BSc already exists for over 15 years, so maybe courses are outdated and need to be updated. Or some courses could be added in the BSc or the MSc’s.
This is still a work in progress, and a second redesign lab is necessary before more information can be gained, so wait on the new Breeding Educations for updates.

Current Topics
Current Topics in the MSc Plant Biotechnology will now be given in the first period instead of spread out throughout and entire year. The material given in the course will stay the same, it will just be given in a different format. Because the course is given in period 1, this also gives new MSc students a moment to meet everyone and make (new) friends.
