One committee is chosen every month to be ‘the committee of the month’. In this column we tell about the activities and/ or goals of one of the many committees of Semper Florens. This month, the First Year Committee.
The First Year Committee is the committee responsible for welcoming new Plant Sciences students and introducing them to our study association. The committee organizes a study day in the AID, a dinner, a weekend and often an extra integration activity. During the study day the new students get the opportunity to meet and to get to know each other and the association before starting at the university. There will be several games and the day will end with some drinks and a BBQ. When school has started a weekend will be organised to really get to know your new study mates. During the dinner the firsts year will be introduced to all committees of Semper Florens and get the chance to join a committee. The First Year Committee has worked hard and is very excited about all these coming activities. They are enthusiastic and hope to see all new plantlets, or as they say it new germs at the activities.
If you are wondering why the first-years are called germs by the committee, here the explanation. As germ you don’t know very much yet and you still have to be raised. The committee has the very important task to guide the germs through the processes of transforming into full grown-up plantlets. To let the germs grow the committee stimulates the potential climate as well as possible. That’s why they organize the activities; to create the perfect conditions for the perfect growth process.
